Remind me to ONLY CALL my friends at *evil Cable Empire* when I need assistance.
I JUST wanted to know if there was an outage. I didn't need to walk through cycling the power on my stuff AGAIN, and then get a phone number for my OBVIOUSLY defective router.
The brand new router.
Oh, and by the way, shutting off the modem (the very very OLD modem that obviously is the source of all my outages lately) unplugging it, hitting Reset for a count of 10, and POOF I have Internet. DO I think I did something with that kind of reboot, maybe. DO I think that Maybe Idiot Customer Service Unit #842 finally PUSHED the right button to get me access, because telling me it had to be my hardware was easier? More likely probably.
Now I'm pissed off and have some more work to do. *grumblepants*
I'm SO looking forward to the upgrade fucking phone calls I have to make. Must chat up reps first so I KNOW what to say. I'm about ready to kick puppies.

Date: 2007-05-03 01:53 pm (UTC)But he said is HAD to be QUITE obviously, the router.
The new, two month old router.
Instead of the SIX year old modem, that's been on constantly.
It went like this:
Me: The modem is on, and I have power, but the lights that show I'm connected to the Internet are dark, is there an outage.
#842: Well I checked and you'll be happy to know your modem has power.
Me: I can see that, but it says I'm not connected to the internet.
#842: Are you connected to the internet?
Me: ?????
#842: Well you've cycled down the modem and the router and it doesn't work. Let me give you the number of the technical support for the router so you can call them.
Me: It's pretty clearly the modem, or I have an outtage, and I'm just going to try differnt things to the modem until it works, but sure, go ahead and give me the number (*asshat*)
#842: OK! Have a great night!
Me: *sighs* *reboots modem* *Hello Int0rweeb*
Frankly, I think something had to be rebooted in the "office", then me rebooting the modem connected me right away. I had purchased a new modem but I'm being told it's probably not necessary. I can't deal with this until I get home from England, so hopefully it won't give my roomie any more trouble.
