Perhaps stupid
Aug. 12th, 2005 01:23 ambut I see it as an investment.
I made a dent in my savings for the trip, and I think I'm going to make more. I want a new camera, and this is the perfect weekend to purchase it, being Tax Free Weekend in MA. So I think I'm going to use what will amount to the rest of my savings to buy it.
Now, I hear some of you Tsking me for it. However, one of the things keeping me from selling is the lack of a decent camera. My older Canon did well, but it's gotten to be a PITA to work with. After this last weekend, and NOT having a reliable camera, not taking any pics at ALL, pissed me off.
So I'm going to buy the better camera, I've pretty much decided on the Canon A95, but that is negotiable, depending on what I find onsale. I DO have a restraint - I don't want to replace my Compact Flash cards, so I MUST have one that uses those. So no Sonys, no nothing like that. I AM willing to consider a used camera, and I must head to Microcenter to see what's in their markdown bin, but honestly I want something NEW that will be in use for years.
My only needs in it:
- it's a point and shoot. I don't want to mess around with settings.
- it has a relatively fast shutter time. I'm TIRED of missing Rogue action shots.
- it has a LCD screen that is reliable.
- reasonable batteries are a plus, perhaps something I can get at a drugstore
- Compact Flash (I believe it's a 1, I'll be taking one with me to make sure)
- smallish, something I can throw in a purse, without a case. The A95 isn't exactly small but it's lens retracts.
See not too demanding. I REALLY want something that reacts faster, and am willing to pay for that. To begin with, I'll be taking better sales pictures of things, and THAT, in of anything, will help me rebuild my savings. As will the transfers I'm going to start making to make up for it. Teh UNit's birthday money will be going into savings as well.
Anyway. I've been a bit wired but should try and head to bed. I have an odd case of heartburn that's coming and going. I think I can't eat plain donuts, since this started when I had some Munchkins. Then I had coffee cake at Diesel, and I just feel crappy. *shrugs* I'll drink some water and find my Tums before bed. This had BETTER not be the thing Teh Unit has, constant heartburn. I'm NOT THAT OLD! Dammit. *grins*

Date: 2005-08-12 01:54 pm (UTC)I know I can't get professional speeds for what I want to pay. I want something just a HAIR faster, I'm ok with a delay between pictures. I know one of the Canons had a rapid exposure setting, I'm going to go handle some of them when I get a chance.
I don't want to buy from Circuit City tho, they kinda suck price wise. I'm hoping to find a deal at Microcenter

Date: 2005-08-12 04:23 pm (UTC)I just hate it in there. Pushy salesmen.
I pretty much have decided on that A95. it has the 5 megapixels, seems to have a pretty fast shutter speed, takes AAs (which they'll be happy to sell me a package with rechargeables *makes a face**grins* I MIGHT buy it tho, it comes with a camera case, I want to look at it first) and I think the thing that gets me is the swivel LCD screen. it seems like the most comfort bells and whistles for the least money (I'm seeing it under $300)
I'm running to BJs to see if they have it in stock, then buying it tomorrow, unless they're willing to give me the no tax price. I SHOULD run over to Microcenter to see if they have any open box specials first. Hrm.
