Car is done.
They replaced the muffler, and did an oil change. They found the same item Saturn was talking about, regarding safety, some bar thing. He gave me an estimate of the part and work, but I'm not sure what to do, fact is I can't afford the work regardless of who does it. BUT, at least the car sounds 200% better. I'm trying to find out what the muffler actually does, since even the shifting issues I had seem to have gone away. but that could be due to new oil. Time will tell.

Seriously want to stay home tonight. I'm just not feeling social, or rather, not feeling social with people I don't know/don't want to know. *shrugs* I've already dismissed the idea of ManRay, mostly due to skin/eye issues. My eyes itch WORSE when I even think about it. Plus I'd like to save my money for movies on Sunday if my Vin Diesel partner in crime is open to it. I have to call her.

Anyway, I'm going to finish watching L&O:SVU, and decide what to do. I'm still a tad hungry. I want something in the way of spicy fingerish food.

the muffler does 2 things. Muffles the sound from the tail pipes so that your car isn't loud, and creates compression to help keep a good vaccum in the engine.

Your shifting problem probably had to do with not enough fluid in the transmission. When they changed the oil they probably checked the transmission fluid level too. I use to hate it when I would get low fluids in the VW.
