Since it's the front door to the office building I was supposed to be in today.
You know, the one they changed the key to, that I don't have.
I have a key to the office, but assumed the front door would be open.
I was wrong.

So I get a free day. I was going to take one on Monday, my days just shifted a bit.

I'm installing the new hard drive and having issues. I recommend all geeks run for the hills. (Not major issues - I'm flaking on what happens to the drive after I install it and the computer sees it. I can't get it to assign a drive letter. Poopy)

I've located a geek who didn't run fast enough, and have gotten that far.

My motherboard might not be able to handle the size of the drive, and i'm involved in a chat and can't reboot right now...

any ideas on how to get a 5 year old P3 450 to recognize more than 30 gigs on a 160 gig HD?

A BIOS update will be the most likely thing to enable support for larger drives. Do you know what make/model the motherboard is?

I have a half sister, from my asshole father's second marraige, who is 18, and VERY chatty today - she thinks I'm weird.

I'd SO need to test drive you first, ebfore I'd introduce you to my little sister. You know, I have to be a good big sister, and make sure she's all set. *evil grin*

Are there any nights you and T might be free, not this week, but next, for maybe a gang dinner or drink? So I can at least say Hi, while we've jumped the pond? It might make a diff - I'll hopfully be emailing everyone after I've worked out with J.

the motherboard has a serial number of se440bx-2
This is not supported anymore by Microsoft.

Also it's running a Pheonix Bios 4.0 version 6.0.
I haven't found any additional updates, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for.

Any advice to BIOS upgrades would be appreciated, even if you are a naughty perv. *hugs*

The motherboard page is here (http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/SE440BX2/), but it seems that no bios update increases the size of disk supported. In this case the limit is 137GB (see here (http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-009028.htm)).

Looks like you've already been pointed at the utility you need by xraycb, although if you choose the PCI add-in controller suggested by emarkienna you will get the best performance.
