My friend Lou, who joined the Army full time emails me on occasion, from Ranger trainging in Fort Benning in GA. He's been keeping me updated on Jump school (6 sucessful jumps, Yea Lou), on EMT training, and on his hell weeks where they try to wash as many people as they can out. He's passed most everything, and knows which Ranger battalion he'll be going into, which begins training at Benning.

To be most likely sent to Iraq, when their training is complete.

I remember when a HS friend of mine joined the Marines, when Desert Storm was announced (I was at dancing that night and we stopped class to listen to the details on NPR) . . . the first thing I thought was "Oh Crap - he's going to Iraq and we'll never see him again".

The lucky stiff, he had an injury and never made it there (honorable discharge after 3 1/2 years of service). But the thought is still just scary.

I have great respect for people in the military - though things have been peaceful as of late the potential for injury is scary.

Just rambling :)
