There's an article on Boston.com saying how it takes the average person 28 hours to prepare their tax return.

My average? = half an hour

IF, you just drop ALL your crap for the year on me, and IH ave to go through things, like you do in prep to see your accountant?
My new average? = an hour

And I'm not "spectacular." One of the CPA clients has some much stuff we use a 3 ring binder and it took me ALL DAY one day to just go through and organize their tax papers, not even any bills (of course I also had to go through their Quicken reports line by line to drag out information.)

I'm working today and I DON'T LIKE IT. I went to one client, got a call from another, went to the other, have to go deposit her investment stuff, and take her taxes and my extension to the post office, AND I got another call from a client, who thankfully doesn't want anything NOW. On top of that I'm helping one person via email file the right thing, and I expect another call tonight to walk the Monkey through his.

*sighs* I had said t Howie maybe we should have sushi tonight, and I'm wiped out. Plus, I haven't heard from Saturn about my car yet and I'm starting to get jumpy. I can't do ANYTHING til I hear about what's wrong. I'm wondering if they are just doing the oil change, and then they're going to call me with a "He's dead, Jim." but the CUTE service guy, with the plugs in his ears told me ai was a "trip" when I came in and he's cute enough that I'm not offended *evil grin*

Ok, off to the post office, and then I guess we'll see. I have stuff to write about yesterday.

Average time for me to do tax return, including all the dumb-ass forms for having your own business: one and a half hours. Using TaxCut, but still.

I think 95% of the 28 hours is the procrastination involved in getting all the paperwork together!

How hard is it to plug numbers into a program and wait for them to spit them back out? ;)

Only reason I just now sent them off was because I knew I owed. If I was getting $$ back, I'd have sent it in early. :P

I think it took about an hour to do my taxes this year, with my mother (the CFP) walking me through so I could learn. This is counting both federal and state, mind you.

Of course I don't have a lot of big holdings that could make it more painful, like car, house, etc.

Mine took about 5 minutes, but I didn't make any money.
