I feel like I'm joking about it, but damn if this doesn't sound like me!
What to do when you hit the Wall
If you don't go and read, which I really recommend anyway, here's the scary part:
".....defining the condition as the gradual process by which a person, in response to prolonged stress and physical, mental, and emotional strain, detaches from work and other meaningful relationships. The result is lowered productivity, cynicism, confusion ... a feeling of being drained, of having nothing more to give. "
And
"...these are signs you may have fallen victim to burnout yourself:
You don't enjoy activities and relationships you once enjoyed.
You feel numb and less focused.
You're not experiencing your normal range of emotions.
You feel exhausted and drained.
You feel as if you're going through the motions, but aren't quite "all there."
You're regressing to patterns and emotions that you thought you had left behind.
You feel as if you were on a treadmill. "
I mean that's what's happening - how I feel NOTHING is important. And the least important person is me. My clients. My friends.
I don't think I'm going to make it. Seriously.
But at least I know WHY I feel this way.
"Burnout brings with it a sense of grief, says Gorkin. "Something has died. Something is not the same." Grieve your lost sense of optimism or ideals. Once you have gone through the grieving process though, your energy and enthusiasm will return. "
Oh I'm SO taking a month off. Not kidding.

Date: 2004-03-15 09:39 pm (UTC)I've been meaning to look this up.
I've been talking to my bosses telling them I might be "burning out" and I've gotten some sympathy, some scoffing, but NOT ONE of them said "What do you mean "getting," you ARE burnt out!" Heaven forbid I refuse to work.
I had no idea - even the knowing has given me some energy, you know?

Seriously, I was anticipating seeing signs, I had no idea I was in full blown burnout - and have been for MONTHS. And yes, I think you are too. You need a time to recharge away from all the crap you don't like.
I'm thinking about spending close to a week in NYC when this is all over, I'm starting to formulate a plan. I'd be staying with A to keep costs down, and going into the city and LIVING, and doing, instead of sitting in front of the TV - I'll live without it for a while (says the addict)
Weren't you going to Cali for the same thing? You probably should.

In your month off you NEED to come down and hang out. Shall I tempt you with my Anubis plushie?

I know - I'm obviously snappish, so every other hour I get you weren't supposed to be that way. Every other hour I'm all poopy over it *grins*
Anyway, I'll try and wrap my head around it during my work time and let you know.
