Oh - One more thing about last night
Jul. 24th, 2003 06:07 pmif, by chance,
you are going to purchase, what I KNOW to be at LEAST a $350 corset (I recognize the style and fabric from the place I got mine) for the SAKE of the GAWDS, PLEASE HAVE IT FITTED!
She was a BIG GIRL. With LARGE BREASTS!
And the corset would have made her look fantastic.
BUT
it was TOO BIG. She was flopping all over the place, and it was laced completely closed in the back.
WHY?
I bypassed my corset (although not in my color, which I prefer!) at the Flea for that VERY REASON it just wasn't right. I saved and agonized, but I bought the one made to MY MEASUREMENTS. It Fits as it SHOULD, it's got room to breathe AND tighten. AND It was CHEAPER than the one at the Flea (See, there's a lot of people who buy at the Flea for the sake of buying at the Flea. Guess what? I got a Better corset, cheaper by NOT buying off the rack AND buying directly from the dealer. So Nyah.)
So, little newbie, if you're reading this, have someone cut down your corset. Please trust me, it NEEDS to fit you, it's about a size too big. IN THE CHEST, and I know that's a hard one, since you own HUGE tracts of land, you dig?
it pissed me off the whole night. kinda like "Why would folks be throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that?" You know?

Date: 2003-07-24 03:18 pm (UTC)if I am going to dump that kind of money on anything I expect it to be damn near perfect! (This is also why I have never actually owned a corset. sigh.)

Date: 2003-07-24 03:26 pm (UTC)It was distressing.
And yes, that's EXACTLY why.
My Vollers corset fits, I paid 175 for it back in the day.
I need a new one - I will eb researching that at some point.
My Purple and black one is to DIE for, from Versatile fashions. One small problem with a grommet, but it's two years later, not worrying about it.
And the one i haven't worn yet - gotten through corestry LJ a Gallery Serpentine for 85. If it wasn't this cheap, I probably wouldn't have gotten it - it's impossible to get into it alone (or out of it, but I consider THAT a plus *evil grin*) plus it's a heavy material.
Look at the Vollers, they're not that pricey, they're almost a "chain" brand and it just does fit, you just need the right size. Mines a 36 waist, which just about perfect, although the 34 would give me more to work with.

Date: 2003-07-24 03:30 pm (UTC)one of these days I need to take some of my nice savings and find someone to make me a custom. one of my lj friends makes them though she's seriously cutting back on business. I am hoping I can convince her to do one for me one of these days.
damn, I can't wait to actually have money.

Date: 2003-07-24 03:28 pm (UTC)I know what I like, I certainly don't know enough to teach a class, unless it's "Have Tia grade your look" classes. hmmm, getting paid to tell people they look fat and ugly in "that" *giggle*

Date: 2003-07-24 06:18 pm (UTC)i can't wear several of my corsets anymore because laced all the way they're still a smidge too big. but they're also $50 corsets. if it were a $350 corset, i may be a bit more determined to wear it, fit or ill-fit.

Date: 2003-07-24 06:37 pm (UTC)The thing gaped open at the top, and had a lot of extra room at the bottom, but it was tight in the middle.
Translation = she looked like an ameteur, and the corset looked brand new. the thing had no wear on it.
Did you see the girl I'm talking about - red corset with Chinese poppy pattern? It just didn't look - right.
Honestly - if I looked like she did in the corset - I'd sell it and buy a new one before I'd EVER wear it again. JUst me tho.
