Day 2 (I think)
Nov. 21st, 2002 12:47 pmSo it's about noon. I'm reading email and LJ wondering "where is everyone" and realizing it's not (then) seven, and no one but
dancer is awake yet.
Yesterday was far more surreal than I had anticipated. My days are all helter skelter, not to be helped very much by the time change from where my life is, and the people I want to keep in touch with. *shrugs* I don't actually want to get used to it, it'll make coming home harder than it already will be. At least when I get home, it being 4:30 in the same afternoon will be helpful. I felt totally willing to go and go yesterday til my body failed me. The sprit willing and ya ya ya.
I did make it (eventually) to the V&A, and everything was very pretty. I saw a TON of period clothing, and I know, let's see (
maudlinkitty,
azanthia,
fieryredhead) at least three people I couldn't have dragged away from the clothing. I didn't see any objects, tho, from the Elizabthian period, although I was also unable to go and look at the Armor on the third floor, so I believe a trip back is in order, during normal hours. Also, the Japanese rooms were closed for a function, and all I could see were the large, old, POINTY things I wanted to go drool on, so I'm definately going back. I was also VERY tired, I decided I couldn't take pictures *SNA*? So, I'm going to double check the website, then do so. I may buy
azanthia some postcards in the giftshop.
The thing I'm finding hard is the lack of TV. I know, I'm a big ignorant Amercian (hey
kazama *snotty Simpsons Japanese accent* "Welcome, rich American investor." */sSJa* *grins*) but it's more than that. I always have SOMETHING on for noise, I'm really not used to being alone with my own thoughts for too long. I have that same problem at
staralfurinn's place too. I'm just used to NOISE of some kind, and I'm a bit old to be changing that easily (notice I said "easily".) While I was reading Email I was listening to the kids outside, there's an elementary school nearby. Now I have on one of the CDs I brought, and J has TONS more (former DJ) so maybe that'll keep me, until I can settle down at night and watch Lexx, and Enterprise. I'll have to send J some decent movies, and TV.
For those in the London know, J lives about a 5 minute walk from the Wood Green Underground stop. It feels just like the Harvard Square area near Tower Records. Everywhere FELT like Cambridge. It's freaky. (Not entirely unexpected, but freaky nonetheless.)
Today brings the British museum, where I should get busting soon, I think they close at 5, and I want to have plenty of time to see the Eqyptian rooms completely. I'm at a loss what to do tonight. J has been called into work at 4, thanks to waiting for schmucks from Cali, so I may wait for him to see if we want to have lunch before I go out. Oddly enough, there's a KFC down the street. I could go to the London version of Goffee (with BEER!) but there's some new Goth/Industrial night that it sounds like people may be going to, and I'm not sure I'm up for that alone. So I may make a nice in night tonight, watch some Lexx and continue to settle. I'm still not feeling quite right, from large amounts of walking.
Some things are same, yet different. Like the Coke comes in 1.5 liters, and is more expensive than at home (I think this cost me 1.20, which translates into about 2 dollars) I'm easily finishing it, where I might not finish a 2 liter. Anyway, I should be off, I'll have more later, I'm sure.

Ooh, jealous!
It sounds like you're having a good time :) I can't wait to see you when you get back! Now that I'm working again, I need to take you for that manicure soon :)
Re: Hola Chica!

I'll ask around, maybe I can find someone in your area. Hmm, day spa!
So, you have decided to distribute Mr Sparkle products in you home prefecture

Date: 2002-11-21 05:33 am (UTC)I'm just getting tired easily so far. I pushed myself hard yesterday, and didn't realize it.
I saw those freaky B&J things last night, and said to myself "Why bother?" *giggle*
I need lunch (yes I said lunch) and Museum goodness.
Peace out, YO! *LOL*
:)
Date: 2002-11-21 05:58 am (UTC)And then we'll all have to get together when you come back for you to tell us all about it!
*grumbles* I will make it to England someday!
Re: :)
Date: 2002-11-21 04:07 pm (UTC)So, we should plot, together. I'm saying a year from April, becuase I REALLY want to go to DragonCon next August, and I'm thinking I may want to take one of the adventure packages to Iceland I saw in a brochure.*drools*

The whole reason I moved to Boston/Cambridge after France was because I *thought*[1] it would remind me more of London (and Europe in general). There are more European cities in the US, but I didn't have offers in any of them.
[1] You may have noticed that many clubs close after 4:00 am. Some go up to 7:00. Exactly like Cambridge...

Date: 2002-11-21 04:09 pm (UTC)I've yet to be in a club, and I've been "home" by 10 each night. I'm trying not to overdo, and J hasn't been available for late night frolics. I'm OK with starting slow.
And It was even worse today, re: the Cambridge thing. Except for how FRIENDLY everyone was. That is SO not USA Cambridge.
And yes, I understood why you chose Boston, rather easily.
