Gimme an opinion
Nov. 12th, 2002 02:22 pmBecause I don't feel like making a poll:
Books for the trip, I'm definately getting a couple of trashy novels, but I want a hair more substance as well:
The Dune Series - potentially the newest ones House Harkonnen and House Atredies, along with a reread of Dune (I was about ten to tweleve on the first read *evil grin*)
Lord of the Rings series - Never read them, almost don't want to spoil the movies with the "It's different" clutter (PS - i have these on CD, books on CD if you will, a gift from the Laura many moons ago)
The Gormenghast series - something
deadwinter reminded me of in his journal, I've wanted to read these since seeing th BBC/PBS series (Something I need to get Marcus, perhaps I'll look while I'm over there, but *shhhhh* Don't tell him *lol*)
Any other recommendations? I'm seriously leaning towards Dune, since these I can probably get cheap and used.
And I did say series, I have two 7 hour long flights, and have been known to finish trashy novels in about 2 hours. Goblet of Fire (hardcover) took me about 10, straight reading, all day one Saturday.

Date: 2002-11-12 10:11 pm (UTC)Did you ever read Roger Zelazny's Amber series? That is my favorite science fiction series of all time. I guarantee it would make one of the flights go REAL quick (alhough there are 5 books, they are rather short).
Also, you've probably read Hyperion and the Fall of Hyperion, but if not, those are pretty awesome books as well... there was a 3-year period where all I was reading was computer books and cookbooks, but I made time for those in between.

Date: 2002-11-12 10:24 pm (UTC)The book goes into much deeper detail. The thing is, it's a series, and after Dune everything goes all upsidedown, which I hated. What I'm seeing about House Atredies tonight makes me want to skip these for now.

No, I haven't, that might be an option. But, I looked up the flight info again tonight, and there are two movies I want to see showing each way, at my seatback private screen, plus Nintendo games, and television shows. I could sit back and totally veg out in front of movies the whole time *lol*

Actually, no I haven't read them. They sound familiar tho.
I'm thinking about going with the Gormenghast series, if I can get the three book compendum used, plus a raunchy novel or two, for the fluff hours. I'm less worried about the flights, and almost more worried about the airport wait(s). How was your trip, BTW?
