Kinda now not knowing what to do with myself.
Got client work done, ate.
Still obsessing about the STUPID wedding, and buying the "right" dress.

Here's the deal -

I have the "wedding of doom" the one that wouldn't tell me whether or not I could have a date, and D's not attending, and is going to be a roomful of drunken normals (why am I going again?) And I want the "correct" dress, one that won't wash me out (like the last wedding I went to) and one that's "appropriate" so that when (not if ) the bride comes over and criticizes my wardrobe, I can tell her to go F herself, since I know I'm dressed appropriately.

I wanted something slightly flashy but not too much. Something in a simple black dress, maybe with some sparkles, that shows off my chest and isn't frumpy.

Problem number one - Department stores assume that if you're over size 14, you're elderly, or going to a prom. There's not much Inbetween.
Problem number two - locating a) the formal wear and b) formal wear in over a size 14.

Two HOURS Saturday, no purchase. Nothing remotely close, although two possibilities. One was a sparkly black gown in Sears, had a couple of frou frous on it, not exactly what I wanted and NOT on sale. Definitely not what I'm looking for money wise.
One was a "dinner" dress in Filene's. More like what I had in mind style wise, although not showy, since it's a flowy black with purple flowers

Side note - in the Maul for three hours, spend $3 on an ice cream. Spend 10 minutes in TJ Maxx, spend $30. *sigh*

Yesterday - searching for dresses with [livejournal.com profile] maudlinkitty and had ZERO luck, found one that MAY have worked, except it was so big it looked like it was wearing me.

Until I got to JC Penny. Found THE dress. Draped over my chest, sparkly came with a little drape.
$130. AND there was the same zipper problem I had with my Maid of Honor dress, the ducktail look? So I put it back, I CRIED and I put it back. And I bitched about it all the way home, AND all the way to and from Club Hell.

So - here's the dilemma.
The black dress I LIKEY a LOT, and I'm ready to go just drop the $$$. Except it's an evening dress, and the wedding is at 2PM. So it's too fancy for an afternoon wedding, even though it will go into the evening at Lantana.
The purple flowered dress I wanted to try on but we didn't find it at the Filene's in Emerald Square, so I'm nervous about buying it without help. It's a tea length, less frou frou, but still dressy. And I think more appropriate.

So, help me - Tell me that the expensive dress I adore is TOO much. I'm going to go out to the Hanover mall in a few to drool on the black dress, then pop into Filene's and HOPEFULLY try on the other dress, or else it's back to the SSP AGAIN.

Ok, headache forming, and I need a drink. TTFN

If you haven't already, try Lord & Taylor.
I found a lovely gown there (black satin ballskirt, shimmery stretchy top) and I know that [livejournal.com profile] lachesis had good luck there when she was shopping for a formal wedding.

I think spending a lot of money on a gorgeous dress you're only going to wear once is perfectly reasonable (helpful, aren't I?) The bit that raised my warning flags is the bit about it being an evening dress for an afternoon wedding. If you're spending that much money to look just perfect, isn't it going to piss you off that the dress is out of synch in that way? if it were me, that would be the little detail that drove me nuts all afternoon.
