OK this bothers me
May. 22nd, 2002 10:14 amFirst case of "feeling old and grumpy and not understanding the youth of today."
Considering how fast I'm approaching 30, it's troubling.
Dr. Scholl's at Urban Outfitters
Now, when _I_ was a kid, these things were worn ONLY by old ladies. I remember my grandmother and great grandmother swore by them. I remember the "Clomp clomp clomp" noises they made. (It was like "clomp, slurp" as the foot hit and pulled away from the shoe.) (*side note - If _I_ wore shoes that went "clomp clomp clomp" I got in trouble, go figure*) I remember that I and my friends wouldn't have been caught DEAD in old lady shoes. We wore Penny Loafers, thank YOU. *grin*
AND, what happened to the price???? Now OK, It's 2002, and I'm talking 1981 here. But I remember them being about $10, and UO is selling them for _$34_?!?!?!?! I think you can STILL go to Osco (Sorry Brooks, that one's taking some getting used to, I worked at an Osco for about 4 years) or CVS and buy the damn things for $10.
Is it just ME? Is it I'm wrong for considering them old lady shoes? And for being offended by the price? Am I not aware of high fashion?
I swear if I see one freshman in a housecoat, and these Dr' Scholl's (You know, just like Nani used to wear.) I'm going to Lose It.
*sigh* I'm old. Let's face it. I'm no longer "Hip", "cool", and "with it." Right off, Lane, you're bringing me over.
Geez, I do feel like Lane Myer, whose little brother gets all the chicks, and builds a space shuttle from household products in the garage. Where's my hot French chick to help me regain my confidence? (Shit, that just dates me too doesn't it? *sigh*)

Date: 2002-05-22 07:20 am (UTC)I still don't get the idea of specifically Emo music...
But I want raver pants...
Black ones with gaudy pink decorations on them...
*giggle*
Well
Date: 2002-05-22 07:49 am (UTC)Went so far as to try a pair on at Torrid.
And looked at myself in the mirror and said
"but these look baggy. And not neat."
*sigh*
I'm old. I'm just resisting it kicking and screaming.
Re: Well
Date: 2002-05-22 08:05 am (UTC)Of course, what I want they don't sell anywhere in my size.

On a side note - tell K I probably won't be making her thing tonight. Chances are I'm working late at a client who needs some serious help. Then I need to be at ManRay, you've seen the whole "coatboy" thing. I know she'll understand.
Re: Heh
Date: 2002-05-22 08:02 am (UTC)Urban Outfitters
Date: 2002-05-22 07:47 am (UTC)I agree with you about the Dr. Scholls thing.. and yeah.. you can probably still go to Target or Super K and find them in standard white for $10.00. I mean.. they're a block of wood with a strip of leather across the toes.. how expensive is that to produce? geez... and what's with the high heeled versions anyway? man.... they look like those stupid Candies shoes from the 70's and 80's that looked really 'hot' with jeans but hurt like hell when you fell off of them because of stepping on a rock.
*clomp* *clomp* *clomp* *clomp*
The concept of current "fashion" escapes me.
Re: Urban Outfitters
Date: 2002-05-22 07:52 am (UTC)That's exactly what I'm talking about.
But I also thought platform boots were ugly, and now I swear by them.
but mine aren't ugly.
*sigh* I'm resisting the whole old thing, but it bites me in the ass every once in a while.
Hey!
Date: 2002-05-22 09:18 am (UTC)Hmm, perhaps it was just trendy in Wellesley? :)
