a 4 day update, in um, four parts

So there I was, packing and "working" and getting ready to go
Wednesday night I ended up not working as late as anticipated due to scooting out of one office earlier than I'd planned. I tried to go to bed early but didn't really. I still got some sleep:
In case you can't tell from the cuts - this is long. Read at your own risk of being bored and falling asleep at your desk.
Thursday
(NOONE TELL MY BOSSES I got up early! Seriously!)
So my flight to Atlanta was at 10AM, which means I really needed to be up around 6:30ish to get to either the bus or train. I was really afraid, after a rough evening on his part, that M wouldn't be up so I needed to leave myself time to potentially take public transit. Thankfully he was awake and I did end up taking the Express bus, which I'm thankful for today. That got me to Logan early as usual, and through security with little trouble as usual. The worst thing is unlacing the boots I always seam to fucking wear. *sighs*
Let me also say I decided to take ONE PAIR OF SHOES, the Docs I was wearing. There will be much whining about this later.
Flight went relatively painlessly, although I am always floored at how rude entitled white people are, how first class is always fat old white men, and how stupid people get about getting on the plane before as many people as possible. It's not going anywhere without you, you know. But also there is a lot of competition for overhead storage, so I suppose I see needing to board to score a space. That's full of stupid too. But I got my space, and my seat and things were uneventful (also maybe the stupid airlines should STOP CHARGING for bags - I'd have happily checked my bag if I wouldn't be charged for one.)
Arriving at Atlanta I easily followed the signage, and not all that far either in the airport, I didn't need to take any of the trains. The walk outside tho was a bit long and WHOO is it HOT in Atlanta. *groan* But OK I find the shuttle van, and hop in for the 2ish hours to Columbus. And here's where I had a brain fart - there's a bus that goes to Ft Benning, and I took the one that went to just Columbus. So L had to come get me away from work, which he got out early. I didn't want that to happen but it seems OK. Uncle Sugar is a harsh mistress - the weekend would be cut short by training nonsense on Monday, but that's for later in the post.
After changing and the grand tour of Casa L (2 beds 2 baths! I want my own bathroom at home dammit!) we had dinner at the local Applebees (because I was frickin starving!) and then for provisions for drinking and potentially cooking the next day. One of several trips onto the Base. They take that security shit seriously yo! Meeps!
We watched the Ultimate Warrior shows I'd put on the Ipod, and drank, and checked email and porns. I think I drank somewhat *grins* Passed out, slept in the office on the inflatable bed, which I think I need one for my guests instead of the couch that's kinda nasty. Did do some sinking into the middle tho, and somewhat fitfully being overly warm, then overly cold.
Friday
So today was needful to get moving, as we had some errands to run, and movies to watch. Wanted to make a reasonable matinee show of Star Trek, and I was hungry again (a running theme) and I wanted WAFFLE HOUSE! Thankfully I was indulged, and lo, it was good, loaded with meats and waffles. NOM!
Then it was off to the Base again for the movie in the theatre which while wasn't IMax was QUIET! There were about a dozen solders and some girls, and me and L. So that means I got to SEE a movie WITHOUT a Hood SOUNDTRACK for ONCE on opening DAY! PLUS - the three guys in front of us were Ranger trainees and HOT AS HELL! Heheheh. I'm so naughty.
Quick tour of the base, then off to get L's hair cut, all one of them *lol* Back on to the house for steaks and laundry, and YES L those steaks were great! Again with the drinking, but I passed out first this time. It's been quiet and I like it like that.
These two days had been filled with lots of discussions about stuff and people and I do trust I'm of help to him, but that's all I'm going to say because, well, it's non of your business :)
Saturday
Today is the day we relocate to Atlanta. But before that happens we crawl awake and head BAC K to the base, this time to see some of the Best Ranger competition going on, as one of L's commanders was in it. Well a commander and a comrade - they compete and win or lose in pairs. I saw guys climb a 60 foot tower then rappel down (is that the right word?) a zip line in about 2 seconds. then they had to climb some shorter towers, and were timed on all of this. After a couple of teams we went to see another piece, where they pair was treating an injured soldier, then getting him to a checkpoint. This one used BIG BOOMS and simulated smoke and smoke bombs and they were freakin loud!
Oh, did I mention HOT SOLDIER BOYS all over the place? Also - their wives. Frak Me. *facepalm* And kids. Oh well. The single ones are too young for me anyway (At least that's the excuse I'm using)
So after that we fetch up stuff, my stuff, his stuff and BEER and head up to ATL. Hotel is SO posh, I loved it, except for the slightly musty smell that seemed to be in the elevators. We decide to do shopping and stuff this day and head off to Little 5 Points. And find out we didn't look up enough directions or do any research *sheepish grin* We got lucky with a great taxi driver who took us right to the Vortex and gave us advice on how to reach our next destination.
We had an AWESOME burger dinner at the Vortex, and it is super cool in there. HAWT waitress for the win, but I was feeling a bit off and didn't manage to talk her into L's lap for a picture. *sighs* The off feeling continued all night pretty much, What a buzz kill. L had this Stout that smelled JUST LIKE a fucking dark chocolate candy bar. Jeebus!
After poking around a bit, we took the driver's advice and walked to the Masquerade to see the Horrorpops, not my usual cup of musical tea, but was happy to see L happy. Still feeling off so I sat some, and was KICKING MYSELF because the bartendress was FUCKING HOT and was flirting with me something fierce and I didn't feel up to closing the deal.
As I commented to L - Yes, I know you can sleep through anything, and if I'd pulled a boy you would have. But I bet you wouldn't have slept through ME having THAT BARTENDER! (Admission - no he wouldn't have)
(as an aside - no I don't usually swing that way. But as some have commented YES I'm just that naughty and in my defense, and L can attest, she was REALLY FUCKING HOT. Gothy and tattooed and corseted. And yes, I could have hit that, had I worked on it. And if she reads this, I'm SO sorry I was off my game and if I come back down you BETCHA I'll be back. She was Dita hot people - if Dita weren't Dita and just an ordinary goth girl.)
So after L was done bouncing, I had the BRIGHT IDEA that the best course of returning to the hotel action was to WALK the mile or so. This wouldn't be a problem really if I 1) hadn't been walking around already all day 2) we hadn't done a lot of walking to the Masq and 3) I wasn't walking with a Ranger. Who does 20 mile runs. With packs. Uphill, both ways. HE certainly didn't leave me behind and stopped when I needed to, and we didn't do too bad but I was aware of my Fat Assed Ness. me and the gym have a date for ASSWHUPPINGS.
We reached the hotel, was sober, watched some tv crap and fell asleep. I was cold., and really Central A/C never works for me I end up congested.
Sunday
Now Sunday we needed to get up for breakfast. After the fact I can see we got a really good deal on the room, even though it was a bit expensive, it was in line with the other rooms in the area, and included parking for L's Xterra (which would have been $35 a day otherwise) and breakfast in the expensive dining room, which was a bit short on eggs for me on Sunday. I didn't feel like waiting in the HUGE line 20 minutes before the kitchen closed. I made due with MEATSES! and Biscuits and gravy. NOM! But yes so we had breakfast and off to the Atlanta Civic Center and the King Tut exhibit. I'd gotten tickets for the exhibit and for the audio tour via the hotel package. And I'm glad I did.
Because it was a bit underwhelming. Now I KNEW I Wasn't getting *WHAP* King Tut all the greatest hits, but they really overdid with the "We're assuming NOONE has ever heard of Egypt and the Pharaohs EVER!" warming up crap. Although I will say L learned a thing or two, like about female Pharaoh Hapsheput. And the statues were lovely, but I didn't want that and I DIDN'T want the damn Sunday crowds that were there. Making uneducated comments. BUT - I realize that's my issue so I'm trying to let that be (but to hear two old ladies OOOH and AAAAH over a simple beaded necklace saying "However did the manage THAT isn't that INTERESTING!" You know they DID build pyramids, and they made MUMMIES which needed anatomy and skill, but hey. let's cook over a necklace. Ack.)
The stuff from the tomb was amazing. I recognized things I'd only seen in books and let me tell you they were wonderful. Not enough of them, and still more info than I needed. And then it was time for ZOMG BUY EGYPTIAN THEMED CRAP IN OUR GIFTSHOP! I tried not to, but some of the proceeds were being donated to charity, so I bought a small photo book, and a silver charm bracelet which I like a lot. I should have purchased the toy CleoCATra doll, since it's not available online. *sighs* *grumps* but hey I don't need another toy. Really. REALLY.
From there it was back to the hotel (WALKING WTF!) to get the auto, to this time DRIVE to L5P, for revised shopping. I"m now looking for shoes because my FEET FRACKING HURT, and i needed to change out shoes and didn't bring another pair. After trolling some of the stores, getting rain on and dodging it via Hot Chai I got a pair of sneaks in a store we almost didn't go into - the pair of Solid Black Chucks I've been wanting. thankfully at Not Unreasonable prices.
Back to the hotel to grab L's stuff, as he had to head back this evening. Seems Uncle Sugar scheduled some sort of training thing all week, that would run 0530 to 2300 every day. And he's been going all week. But tonight we have tickets for NIN at the Amphitheatre, and we head over right around on time. After some parking and driving foos, we park, not stuck in so we could potentially leave early, and head up to the fan club window for tickets. After translating my last name for the window person (?) we're in. Get into seats missing the first band and watching setup. Which ends up being for NIN.
Who comes out and smacks us in the FUCKING FACE. It was AWESOME! it was EXACTLY what M and I had said "OH they should have played THIS and THAT" after Lights in the Sky. Trent was rantastic about something, I'll have to look it up, and seemed in a fuck the man vibe but it was hard and awesome. Wondered what was going on in the fan section - very few people seemed into it. Huh.
So we commit a sin and leave after NIN. I missed all of Jane's Addiction but it certainly couldn't be helped. With L needing to get up stupid early, and having a 2 hour drive back that evening, and me in a strange city I couldn't stay without him. Getting back to the hotel would have been problematic had I stayed. Got dropped off, which I hate doing that but also couldnt' be helped. Ran up to my room, relaxed a bit, back down to the lobby to print my boarding pass, and then ran out to the local pizza place for a late night snack. Then to bed since I wanted to catch breakfast.
Monday
Now TODAY really ought to be fired. I got up to get ready and found my bill so far, which has a big charge on it for breakfast yesterday. uh No. So I checked on that before breakfast, got that charge taken care of, ate the world's BIGGEST OMLET and they had the BEST bacon ever! Then it's back to the room for some belt losening and relaxing and to finish packing.
I decided to leave just before checkout. I had one errand to run and it would end up being a while. L has brought me some Egyptian style stuff, wall hangings, from Afghanistan and he had one more for me, which is larger than the others (and feathure Tutanhkamen weirdly enough!) but there's no way I could put this in the carry on so it's off to the post office to ship it. It's bigger than the fucking boxes so almost an HOUR I spent trying one thing after another or waiting in the WORST SERVICE LINE EVER. but I didn't complain much as I still needed the lady to seal my purchased box together and she could have been damn difficult. That really set my tone for the day. The walk didn't help either, my feet really hurt now and I'm wearing the Chucks so there's no comfort.
Check email once more and head off on the train. Where thanks to teenage asshattery I don't get to sit AT ALL. I wasn't about to walk away from my bag with stupid people being stupid. Cruise through the airport and security, again despite people being stupid about lines. Get myself a frozen yogurt to soothe my throat and mood, and settle down at the gate to watch. MOre stupid people being stupid, more line mangling. The kicker was the lady who could NOT stop patting herself on the back for getting frozen yogurt before the flight, although she has it in her HAND trying to board, and trying to eat it while the line was moving, thereby holding up the rest of the line. Asshattery.
I made it without killing anyone, got on the bus in the front so I didn't have to lumber like a cow and got picked up by M. We got pizza, because at this point I hadn't eaten since breakfast and was starting to feel it, and then here I am. I've done nothing with things since I got home and I'm still not - I'm off to bed VERY soon, I'm not unpacking anything until tomorrow. Desperately praying for a day off, but knowing I need to work to pay for things *lol*
Whooo! If you read up this long WOW are you bored! But I wanted to summarize for ONCE and especially since I took NO pictures. None. Stupid. *pouts*
Anyway, bed is calling.

Date: 2009-05-12 12:23 pm (UTC)Its too bad you couldn't see Jane's Addiction. We were thinking of going to this show at Great Woods, but its way too expensive for the lawn.
If we make it back to Atlanta I want to check out http://www.thevortexbarandgrill.com/ - we almost made it during our last DC trip. We have yet to make it to Little 5 points, it sounded like a neat area.
The Tut thing reminds me of the one we went to in Vegas. Cute charm bracelet though!
We should try and get together soon. Once you're recuperated, let me know when you're free. :)

Date: 2009-05-12 01:17 pm (UTC)Since tickets all went on sale during the Season, I had some extra money and I have tickets for the Mansfield show through the NIN fan club. So I was OK missing Jane's, because I'll see them in June. And besides, the NIN part was Just That Good. Awesome!
I decided I was NOT missing shows I wanted to go to anymore. I did a lot of "being a grownup" during my job from hell, and I don't think a couple of shows will kill me.
I miss you guys! I need to work out some work scheduling, and I need to see Star Trek in IMAX (*drools*) but otherwise I'm free through Memorial Day - when I go to NYC with some of the girls which is another story ALTOGTHER. I'll tell you in person. *grins*
