Ok, this time about me.

Or rather my poor car.
The current issue is the brakes, the front. The "local guy" says I need pads, badly. That I was on the verge of needing rotors. I finally got around to calling Saturn, who quotes me $350. They insist on replacing the rotors. Now, I know it's not necessary, but honestly the brakes last longer when the rotors and pads are new. And yes, I'm a sucker for my dealer.
now, a call to Firestone, where I get the alignments, brings a cost of $129 for pads, and IF I need rotors, another $120. That's $250, max, plus I'd have an alignment and tire rotation done, since I don't pay for that (Can I JUST SAY that if you don't buy a lifetime alignment from Firestone, you're nuts. Or Somewhere! It paid for itself in less than a year, and that was 2 sets of tires ago, or 4 years ago. NICE!)
The guy down the street quoted me the same price, but he's slimy. Plus the muffler thing, I'm not going back there.
Since I have about $350 left *grins* I think I'm going to Firestone next Tuesday. I have my morning client in the area, I can drop it off for several hours, and not worry.
So, I have questions, which I am also posing to CB (along with being a Computer Hardware god, and a Network Prince, he's also a Car god. Does all that stuff himself. No I don't want him touching my car, there's too much wrong, but if I get a NEW one, you can bet your ass he's doing stuff to it. *evil grin*)
- Do you replace rotors even if you don't need to?
- What else do you look at on brakes?
- How much is too expensive IYHO? I know what I consider expensive (*cough*Saturn*cough cough*) but could I go somewhere cheaper than Firestone and have it done well?
The one thing I have issue with is the wait at Firestone but it's in the middle of things, and I can pop off and work for a while, get lunch, go shopping, and stuff.
*shrugs* so I guess next week will be getting that done. I'm bummed Saturn isn't working out to be the better price, I want to take it to them for the next oil change - the car just isn't happy and I'm wondering if it's the oil quality. It prefers the Castrol, and they used the MObil brand. Not that I'd know jack about oil. Plus I'm getting the Coolant light again. so I need more of that. Slow leak, will be the death of my baby.
In about 3 weeks, I will turn the odometer to 200,000 miles. MY ASS has driven 200,000 miles! Can you imagine? Wow!well, it will be at 200,011. *grins* This baby has gone above and beyond and I need to look into retiring him. *sighs* I'll miss my guy, tho.
The boss bought me Pad Thai for lunch. We actually got out pretty early, and it wasn't really stressful in the office, for a change. I do have to drive down tomorrow, I'm hoping I can persuade CB into going for the ride, but I'm not holding my breath. It'll be OK, maybe I'll get greasy onion rings *silly grin*
I should be doing something. Maybe getting the items up on my sale journal.
