neatsfoot oil! (any leather bits that is) (there's some for sale on this page) (http://www.bigbendsaddlery.com/leatherc.html) (Does wonders for softening and stretching... they don't always advertise the stretching bit as this isn't always a desirable quality for tack - ie horse bridles etc...)
