Adventures with the car of evil.
Mar. 20th, 2001 11:35 pmSo, it all started Friday, on the way to work, on the Cape (I work for a CPA in her office on the Cape)
I stopped for coffee, got back in to the car, turned on the ignition, and noticed the battery warning light on. *sigh*
Call the dealer when I get to work. It probably indicates a problem with the alternator, please bring it in. Uh, you're where? Ok bring it in as soon as you can.
Work all day, leave about 7:30. Still have battery light. Byt the time I hit the Sagamore, I have a "Check Engine Soon" light.
When I pop the "ABS" light, I pull over, off exit 12, Rte 3. The car will not start back up. Major electrical problems. My friend Laura comes and gets me, I have to leave the car overnight. I felt like I was leaving my child behind.
Get up early, nasty early, and haul butt to the Mobil Station, in my sister's nasty car. Call for a tow, warn the dealer it's coming in. I manage to get the car started, to roll it into a better tow position, but it was not a hppy car. Manage to finally get to work, work veyr late to make up lost hours, and get ride home. No ride for the rest of the weekend.
Verdict - One of "those" things. The alternator, over it's warranteed milage, and it took the battery with it. Add to that the routine maintenance I'm haveing done to it, plus the squeeking brakes, which also include a locked something or other that had to be replaced. Oh, and the crackling speaked I also had replaced.
I'll say this right now. If I have to do ANYTHING else to this car, besides the tires which I want to replace anyway, and have planned for at the end of the season during a Sears sale, I'm going to put a gun to it's hood an shoot it. I baby this car, dammit. But, major items only seem to go wrong once a year. Things I DON'T do anyway *evil grin* I suppose it's good it's now when I have the money, but I just don't have the TIME to be breaking down.
